Why is it hard to follow Jesus - @josepheparker

What does it really mean to follow Jesus?
I ask this question to myself almost every time I tend to either find my spirituality in or out of sync with Him. When I’m dancing in tune with the music I sense heaven is playing, there is always a sense of wonder: How do I sustain this? How do I make this last forever? The music almost always stops when I’m suspended in mid-air trying to perform a new “spiritual dance trick.” In my weak state, in my disappointment in the inability to preserve these halo-moments, I stand next to the holiness of God in light of the Scriptures and I break down, literally; weeping on the floor, crying “More!”
At the other end of the spectrum, I find myself doing more of the things I would rather not do; the partaking of my sinful desires and the grand scheme of covering it all up in one giant magical swoosh. These cravings inevitably give me a chance to pause and ponder: Why am I doing this? Why am I enjoying this? I claim to be a Christian. I shout “Lord, Lord!” but I do not do what He says (Luke 6:46.) Sin exposes my true desires and wants and cravings.
Sin is selfish.
It is a “me-first” mentality.
I am in a one-sided relationship with Jesus.
I do what I want, when I want it, and how I want it. Yet, I claim to follow Jesus. But is this what it really means to follow Jesus?
I did not set out to write this post series (in fact, as I write these very words, I doubt if this “book” will ever see the light of the day), but as I wake up every morning, there is a tug within that I can never seem to ignore. Maybe I am scared that I would reveal too much of my sins to the world and I want to do everything in my power to hide them for this is one thing I seem to be good at: hiding my sins. But like cancer, it spreads and immobilises me. Something happened to me when I met Jesus. An inexplicable love had scarred and smeared my heart with a sizzling hot fiery dagger and it has never really remained the same with me. Yet, I still go back to the very things Jesus came to conquer once and for all for me, and for you dear reader.
No matter where you are in your life,
whether you know Jesus or not,
whether you are religious or irreligious,
whether you believe or not,
there is an open door hinged at the end of a very dark room that seems to say, “Come.”
We agree that the church ought to be the followers of Jesus, but that doesn’t mean that we are all in agreement with that. There is so much disagreement in the church today about what it really means to be a follower of Jesus. And it is a really simple concept. Jesus says,“Follow me.”That’s the first thing He says to His disciples: “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men” (Matt. 4:19). And that’s also the last thing he implies to them: “Go and make disciples of all nations…” (Matt. 28:19). He was telling them to go out and make these other followers of Him and “baptise them and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
Now why doesn’t this command work in every area of our lives?
Imagine if you told your son:
“Go clean your room.”
And then a few moments later he comes to you and says,
“Hey dad, I can memorise what you had commanded me. You said ‘Go clean your room.’”
Or he says something along this line,
“Hey dad, I can say ‘Go clean your room in Greek. Listen…’”
Or he tells you how he would gather his friends every week and they were going to do a study on what it would look like if he actually cleaned his room. Now, as a parent, you know that none of those scenarios are going to fly with you. The boy should know better, right? He should buckle up and go clean his room.
Jesus was as black and white as He could get when He gave us the commands of “Follow me” and “Go and make disciples.” He would look at people and say “Why do you call me Lord, when you don’t do what I say?”(Luke 4:46). Why would you call someone your Master and not listen to Him? And He says in Matt. 7:21, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my father who is in heaven.”
In John chapter 6, Jesus said some really difficult words, and this was in front of thousands of people, and when He’s done teaching, everyone leaves except for twelve men. Everyone leaves going, “Arggh, this is some hard teaching, I cannot take that message, I cannot stomach that.” And Jesus looks at the twelve who were left and He asks them a very simple question, “You guys want to leave also?” And then Peter’s reply was very profound and yet simple: “Where are we going to go? You have the keys to eternal life. I know your message is hard, but where are we going to go?”
You think you’re out for this life that is so difficult, then you realise that there is blessing and you have more peace in taking this hard road than going with this wide road that everyone else is going on. And Jesus is at this door, and He says,
“Just take this. Follow me.”
And then you learn that all of the things He is telling you to let go of and walk away from are the things that were going to destroy you anyway.

More truth about tithe @kennykore

Start here for some perspective...

Do you know that Abraham did not tithe his own riches?
He tithed 10% out of the spoils of war to Melchizedek.
Do you know that Abraham returned 90% of this spoils of war to the king of Sodom, after tithing 10% to Melchizedek the king of Salem?
Do you also know that Abraham didn't think those spoils of war belonged to him?
Because he told the king of Sodom, "... I will accept NOTHING BELONGING TO YOU, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, 'I made Abram rich.'
Abraham thought those spoils belonged to the king of Sodom.
Do you know that Abraham was never commanded by GOD to give to the king of Salem, Melchizedek? (It was by choice).
Do you know that Abraham did not become rich after tithing to Melchizedek?
He was already a wealthy man, with slaves etc
Do you know that Abraham didn't tithe to Melchizedek again after that one and only time?
Do you know that if Christians today are tithing according to Abraham, they wouldn't tithe only 10%, they would tithe 100%?
Do you know the Apostles never taught tithe; they taught GIVING willingly or cheerfully.
Giving out of a response to NEED.
Giving out of love?
Giving out of faith?
Do you know that the ways the Apostles raised money in the pioneering church was well documented in the book of Acts... ?
And it wasn't tithe.
Do you know that the Apostles never payed tithe and never collected tithes ?
To pay tithe would mean a return to the Law; to receive tithe would mean you're a Levite?
Do you know the Bible doesn't support the modern believe that it's not our business what our 'MOG's' do?
"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.-Matt. 7:15.
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, BUT TEST THE SPIRITS to see whether they are from GOD, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Do you know that Paul called out erring brethren by name, publicly?
Do you know that according to 1 Peter 2:9 WE ARE ALL PRIESTS?
"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of HIM who called you out of darkness into HIS wonderful light.
Do you know that the churches priesthood is not in the order of Levi?
WE ARE NOT SPIRITUAL LEVITES
Jesus our High Priest is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, we are all priest according to His order.
Do we take GOD seriously when HE (GOD) said HE no longer dwells in Temples made with bricks and stones, that HE dwells in our human bodies?
Is our body the Temple of the Living GOD, or was Paul joking when he said GOD now lives inside of us?
So if the store house is the Temple of GOD, could the store house be human bodies, since that's where GOD dwells now, if GOD is to be taken seriously that is?
Jesus in Matt.25:40 "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine (Temples of GOD), you did for Me.'
Jesus replied, “believe Me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the FATHER in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the FATHER seeks. 24 GOD is SPIRIT, and HIS worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
Are those cathedrals, event halls, hotel venues etc bricks and stones Spirit and truth?
No, True worshippers worship (anywhere. Matt.18:20). The key thing is HOW, (in Spirit and Truth).
The venue of church is you.
AND WE ARE NOT FREE FROM GIVING, WE ARE FREE IN GIVING.

Guest Post: What no one will tell you about your relationship with God

images (6)

In my walk with God (howbeit Short) there are a few things I learnt along the way that no one sent me the Memo in advance. I just want to be a good Samaritan, especially if you are new on this Love walk with God.
Here are some things I've learnt along the way that no one told me about;

1. The Initial High will Fade: I grew up in the church and I have probably dedicated and rededicated my life over to God countless times, along the way God met me, with a yearning in my heart for him or I finally paid attention to that yearning. I bought a Bible and just read. How does one go from falling asleep reading a chapter of the Bible to spending hours studying (notice I said studying) I was so excited to learn truths, I was so excited to know God more, and just when you think you're there the 'high' disappears. Then the real learning begins. No body tells you about this part till you start experiencing it. Good thing about this place is you will have built a certain level of trust with God that will not make you run away from him.
cry out to the lord5

2. You will Cry (Probably more than you've cried before): This walk with God has never brought you to tears? I don't want to know how hard your heart is, when you are overwhelmed by Gods Love Ah! When i say tears, it goes from tears of Joy to tears from worship, to tears from knowing you've been forgiven much, to tears when things get hard and it feels like God is not there but you know what? God has a record of all your tears, [ Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll are they not in your record?] Psalm 56:8 How consoling is that?

3. You will have doubts: When I say doubts I don't mean just having doubts about "Will God do this or that for me" I mean more serious doubts "Is God real?" "How am I even sure we are not all making a mistake?" "All of these doesn't make sense?" Things in that line.
Be calm, the fact that you call them "doubts" means you believe something right? but you are just unsure, You see that alone is an evidence that you are doing something right. The Devil will not shoot you with thoughts to doubt God if you already don't believe him. Get it? Now just smile and say out loud "Lord, I'm sorry for doubting you but now more than ever I am sure you exist, I may not see but I have your word and I believe what you say. Thank you for who you are" Shikena!
*Butterflies and unicorns*

4. This Relationship also needs work; With the mention of "work" and some believers will throw stones but be calm. We are saved by grace independent of our works, Yes I know.
God has called us into a relationship with him and not a dictatorship. Won't grace just be easier if it was a dictatorship? I will just wade through life not "knowing" my master but just taking instructions, accept his goodness and yay heaven, but God doesn't operate that way.

The purpose of Jesus is to restore the relationship between the creator and the creation.
So, do you think he just saves us to know that we are going to heaven or he saved us to know him? and our knowledge of him assures us of our position in him? Makes sense?
Here is the tricky part; In every relationship if you don't spend time with your partner how will you get to know them? It doesn't happen automatically. God has the power to input all the knowledge we need into us but he is not a dictator, He wants you to be genuinely interested and the interest you show births the work, but this work is not labouring or trying to get him to do what he has already done or anything legalistic (Like they will say)
We spend time with him to know him not because we think reading the Bible 3 hours a day will earn us his favour or anything of that nature. So, our 'work' is birth out of Love not Labour

4. You will still be bad (Sometimes worse); Your decision to accept the Life of Christ doesn't automatically make you drop all your old habits infact as you walk with him he will start showing you things you never knew were there. Keep calm, don't fret If he is showing you its because he is working in you to be better, don't act by what you feel act by who God says you are in him!

5. You will become boring.... by the world standard; This is expected but no one will tell you about it, but you know what? There is much more fun in the Son! Halleluyah! Your view has just shifted and remember you are in the world and not of it. Its okay that things of the world interest you less as you continue in him. Keep calm and have fun in the son!

6. Serving in Church is not the Ultimate.... Yep! I dare to say it. Remember Mary and Martha? What did Jesus say?
" Mary sat at Jesus' feet and listened to his words. Martha, meanwhile, was distracted with preparing and serving the meal for the group.
Frustrated, Martha scolded Jesus, asking him whether he cared that her sister had left her to fix the meal alone. She told Jesus to order Mary to help her with the preparations.
"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." (Luke 10:41-42, NIV)

7. The "weird Unpredictable Uncle" AKA the Holy Spirit is Fun; Contrary to the Image we have of the Holy Spirit in our heads, we are scared because people fall in 'those' moments - Don't know about you but I used to be - One thing I know now is that when we start acknowledging his presence in our lives it gets easier.

This is not to say the Journey is not exciting, it is the most exciting Journey any human can embark on and I won't have my life any other way than one with a relationship with God, Jesus and the Holy spirit.

As a believer does this list look familiar? What have you learnt in your walk with God that no one told you about, care to share?

JESUS!

Good Morning Jesus,

I don't know if i can ask "How are you?" does anyone ask that these days? How is your father? Our father? Isn't it amazing how this tiny me gets to share the same HOLY father with you, just because of you. I really didn't plan to get to the gratitude part just yet.

I'm sure you must be wondering why i'm writing to you as i never really talk to you, but ofcourse you know why already. But i will go into it anyways.
The reason i decided to write to you is because, over the past few weeks i discovered that i really don't know you. I've heard of you. I believe in you. I believe in your purpose of coming to the earth. I believe that you have the power to save, redeem, heal, to resurrect, all of that. There is a possibility that admist all what i think i know and believe that i truly don't know who you are? Right?

I Thought so too.

God and i have been back and forth, not really. I have been going back and forth with God in this chase, and i have been so caught up in that and everytime i hear someone say your name, i just feel.... "I don't really know him indepth"

Does this even make sense?
Now, I'm not done with this chase. Its a beautiful experience, i just feel like i have a relationship with the father and not you - yet you made that relationship possible - and i seemed to have relegated you to the background somehow, in my own how.

Thinking of the mind blowing three-in-one and One-in-three relationship/fellowship you have with the father and the holyspirt and still being able to maintain the uniqueness of personalities, i wonder where that has me. This is where my confusion lies.

How can i have you inside of me and not know you? How can that fellowship be complete when its broken by my lack of knowledge? How can the relationship sail smoothly when the captain is not acknowledged for his skills? How can i have a not-so-personal-personal-saviour?

Does any of this even make sense?

I don't even know what it means to know God and not know you. I don't know how i know that i don't know you - that's not important - all i know is now? I want to know.

I know you are waiting to teach me all about you and i am asking that you help me unlearn and learn about you, i just don't want to be the girl that says she knows about you and i can't stand boldly when its time to really talk and show other people who you are. I can't be that girl.

"I know my iniquities are many...but do this for your name sake" Jer 14:7, Have mercy on me and teach me all about you.

Thank you so much for being there and being faithful to your name. Thank you for always listening. Thank you for being you and doing all you did on the cross, this is the only reason why we have the boldness to go to the father.

I am also grateful for the new relationship we have now. I am glad and can't wait to walk in the manifestation of this new revelation of who you are and the power behind your name.

Your daughter and Friend,

'Tomilola.

Is this just me? Or is there also someone out there that feels like they don't really really know Jesus as much as they say?

or Can you even have a relationship with God and not have one with Jesus?

Please, Lets talk.
