Abnormal: The new Norm.

"Who among us has never stolen something from his mother" This was the question that came up when a group of university boys sat down to discuss in the hostel that afternoon.
Tk proudly indicated that he had never stolen from his mother, with the roar of "You are a liar" "Not even one meat from the pot?" "Go away" "In all your life" "Liar" he got from the other boys surprised him. He had to keep quiet.
Listening to her relate the story her son told her got me thinking,
Is it not the right thing(Morally) to not steal from your mother? Is it not the right thing for a government official not to loot?
Is it not the right thing not to cheat during exams?
Is it not the right thing to speak the truth? Is it not the right thing to put the exact amount on a business proposal?
The list is endless...
When did normal become abnormal? when did speaking the truth make you uncool? when did not cheating during exams mean labeling you "SU"
Regardless of what we all think, there are still "abnormal" people who just want to do what is normal to do.
If someone asks me "Are you a virgin" and i say "Yes" the next thing you hear is "Its a lie, say the truth" You get labelled old school because you just want to abstain till you get married.
I ask myself again.
When did normal become abnormal now making abnormal the norm?
When doesn't really matter now does it? The deed is done.
The way out? i have no answers for that. but i just have a challenge for everyone that abnormal is now the normal for them.
How about trying something normal for the change?
how about we just want to do right just because its the right thing to do? How about we start believing that there are actually people who just want to do the right thing and you can be part of them?

Great piece; a lot of people wld rather stand for lies and no truth; my colleague and I were talking the other day and she mentioned that it's better to act like them than try to be different cos u'll be laughed at.
ReplyDeleteA lot of ppl can't stand being made jest of; so they go with the tagline; 'if you can't beat them, join them'
I really wished we all could stand for d truth; say Yes even when everyone says No! Stand for the truth; stand for Christ.
Jesus could have denied not being the Saviour but he didn't consider what would be done to Him; He thought of the people He was paying the price for and the father in Heaven who will be proud of Him.
I stand for the Truth! God help us all.
Wow!! Thats just sad.
DeleteBut its our reality. We do NEED to take a stand for the truth! Yes!!!
Thanks for stopping by dear.
Lol. I get the virgin one. There are adult virgins out there, but a child stealing something from mum is very normal. This is because it is the nature of the child, until the rod of correction drives it out, lol.
ReplyDeleteAn experiment was conducted on hundreds of children, and they were told not to touch something, and left alone with the thing. Thinking no one was watching them, they all touched the thing in the next hour or so. 100% of them. If any child did not touch it, science proves the child is going to be a dummy. It is just the nature of kids.
Yes, there are.
DeleteOh well, the stats are right but then there is a difference between "don't touch something" and stealing from your mother. Its not the nature of every child to be a small thief.. Disobedience maybe.
The same questions I always ask myself. Most people just assume everyone is corrupt, or everyone is doing the same thing because it's common. But that's so not true. I'm familiar with that "you are behaving like SU or 'holy holy' "talk
ReplyDeleteThere are out there who stand for what is right at all times and are labelled 'abnormal'.. I identify with the so-called 'abnormal', although I consider myself very normal, no matter what people say.
Abi oh.. No matter what they say, We are the normal ones. :)
DeleteBeen a minute dear. Thanks for stopping by.
For some people abnormal is all the normal they know, and for others it crept up on them when they couldn't /dint stand for what is right ,seeing as
ReplyDeletewe are faced with situations and decisions to make daily.
It takes grace to choose normal when surrounded by a sea of abnormal.
I kinda agree tho, but then when you are now aware that the abnormal that you know is not exactly normal, we should take conscious decisions to make it right. In my opinion.
DeleteI don't think there should be an excuse for that sha. Thanks for stopping by
And you are totally right!
