Cover me right.

Walking around fully clothed and still longing for a covering. Anyone else ever felt that way? And when people stare at you for too long you start to feel awkward, like “Can you stop already”

I’ve felt that way countless times.

We are going to camp in Gen 2 &3 for this today. Stay with me

“And they were both naked, the man and wife and were not ashamed” Gen 2:25

The first thing people will jump at here is Aha! Wedding night, when they are naked they will not be ashamed, Yeah partially but we are also aware that some married people are still “shy” of their nakedness. Think about it.

Let us bear in mind that this verse was before they ate of the tree in the midst of the garden and we know how the story went. The serpent, Eve then Adam… back and forth then BAM!!

“And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sew fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons” Gen 3:7


can we go a little deeper? 

Before all of these, they were like innocent people just playing around in the garden naked and unashamed but now they ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil 

¨...God hath said, ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it lest ye die¨ Gen 3:3

i paused and thought about that for a second ¨Lest ye die¨ but God didnt mean you´ll pull an ¨Abacha¨ the instant you eat the fruit, but because your eye is now open to good and evil he meant

¨For if we live according to the sinful nature you will die¨ Romans 8:13

which is the nature we live by default right? and at the time our eyes will be open to everything 

Our Insecurities

Our Mistakes

our failures

Our shortcomings

which in turn brings us pain, depression

then we sew fig leaves together to ¨cover¨ in different forms like 

fake smiles, make-up, expensive cloths, religion, a good job, shoes, sense of humour, good job.... then go home at the end of the day, curl up in the bed and cry 

*sigh*

After the showdown, by showdown i mean the slow motion walk God did into the scene, the interrogation, the blame game, the curse(s), i noticed something else

¨Unto Adam also and to his wife did the lord God make coats of skin and clothed them¨ Gen3:21

errmmmm *Pause*

Are these not the people that just broke the one instruction God gave them, i mean, that action right there is a show of his Love for us and forgiveness.

but ofcourse they had to take off their fig covering to take on the covering God provided for them. He took away our effort to hide our nakedness and gave us a new and better covering, Jesus!
